I had the opportunity to escape the city and visit Whakatuwhenua and Motu Hawere (commonly known as Goat Island). The bay and nearby islands were absolute gems of the New Zealand landscape. The lush vegetation and crystal clear waters look almost tropical.
Motu Hawere, popularly known as Goat Island, is a marine reserve that offers an underwater paradise unlike any other. As someone who loves the beach and enjoys learning about sea life, I was thrilled to explore this marine reserve. While August is the middle of Aotearoa’s winter, I can never pass up an opportunity to swim at the beach…
Snorkeling and diving in the clear blue waters of the reserve provided a front-row seat to a dazzling array of marine life. There was an abundance of fish, kina (wana or urchin), and beautiful shells! The experience was a reminder of the importance of preserving these ecosystems for future generations.
