Auckland Art Gallery

Auckland is a big city, renowned for its bustle and vibrant culture. It’s also home to many hidden gems, like the Auckland Art Museum. As a student, the museum is a FREE haven from the busy city. Every visit to the museum is a transformative experience that deepens my appreciation for the art, history, and culture.

Founded in 1888, the museum is a testament to the city's commitment to preserving and celebrating art and culture. It's located in the heart of Auckland's CBD, making it easily accessible to both locals and tourists. The museum has no entrance fee making it a great place to study or escape the rain. The museum's architecture alone is a sight to behold, blending classic and modern styles to create a beautiful design.

The Auckland Art Museum boasts an extensive and diverse collection. The museum's commitment to celebrating New Zealand's indigenous Maori culture is evident in its outstanding collection of Maori artifacts and contemporary Maori art. It was a privilege to learn about the rich history, traditions, and artistry.

Currently, they have an exhibit called, “Ever Present: First Peoples Art of Australia”. The images included in the post are all from this collection. It features over 150 works from 1890 to today and is the largest collection of aboriginal art to be presented in Aotearoa.

The museum helps reaffirm the power of creativity to connect people across time and place. I encourage anyone in Auckland to make the museum a must-visit destination. It's a treasure trove of inspiration and a testament to the enduring value of artistic expression.
